The Call

“Hello…Sailor here.”

“Hello.  Rod?”

“No, Sailor.  I don’t know who Rod is.”

“Pardon me?”

“That’s OK.”

“Can I speak with Rod?”

“Sorry, don’t know who Rod is?”

“Let me speak with Rod.”

“You have the wrong number …sorry.”

“This is not Rod’s phone?”

“No.”

“How long have you had this number.”

“Eight years.”

“No Way!  Rod had this number last week.”

“What number did you call?”

“What’s your number?”

“No, it don’t work that way.  You tell me what number you called, and I’ll tell you if it’s my number, or not.”

“Screw-you …click.”

Wow!  I answered the telephone, allowing it to completely interrupt my thoughts.  I do have an appetite for communication, though not the above abbreviated, nonsensical, rude miscommunication the caller abruptly ended.

NEW LOVER

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase:

“…all the good ones are taken.”

just what I thought

first time I saw you

something inside awakened

Don’t need to take

nor come between

to cause a break

I must be true

not be a fake

Sharing what I feel

helps you understand

heart filled with fire

must convey

my burning desire

Your beauty blinds me

tried to think

that’s a joke

visions of our future

danced like smoke

As you come to me

share your love

stored excitement

exploding passion

true enticement

passion wanes

body spent

time to rest

peaceful sleep

You we’re the best

Amy

Gosh Amy, to this day I still feel the sting of embarrassment when remembering how terribly I acted.  The late-night storm raged, and the seas were very rough.  Blinded by passions fire, I was all but unaware of the real discomfort you were experiencing.  I knew we were safe, but you did not.  I don’t get sea-sick, but the gale we experienced would make most people uncomfortable.   "Sorry"  Sailor  December 21, 2010

* * * * * * *

Once again I’ve become lost

some village by the sea

time drags by so slowly

wondering where shall I be

Vivid dreams to quickly ended

reality sparked the morning light

within my arms you slowly melted

just what did I do last night

*

We live on separate planets

miles apart most times of the year

during the early hours of morning

"Just bring in the damn anchor!"

" ……yes dear"

Vivid dreams to quickly ended

reality sparked the morning light

within my arms you slowly melted

what did I think about last night

*

Now sitting by the crossroads

wandering through cobwebs in my mind

seeing your magnificent strawberry hair

images vanishing with time

Vivid dreams to quickly ended

reality sparked the morning light

within my arms you slowly melted

what did I talk about last night

*

Your interest is quickly fading

you lost the love I thought we found

You’ve purged your vivid memory

landing both feet on the ground

Vivid dreams to quickly ended

reality sparked the morning light

within my arms you slowly melted

what did we talk about last night

Homeless

Sitting in a coffee house in the middle of the world (St. Paul, Minnesota), I watched a skyscraper grow from the rubble of another demolished downtown (Landmark) hotel.

The morning sun burst on the scene with a flash
But then downtown I saw all the trash

A fresh new rapping of the Earth
They say it’s progress at it’s birth

Still, I cannot help but wonder why
We have this need to reach the sky

Forever upward with steel and stone
Taking us further away from home

New stores and offices and places to work
But listen, herein lies the quirk

There is a problem we all can see
A great big problem in the land of the free

We need a place to put some beds
A quiet place to rest their heads

For the need of the homeless has reached a state
The problem can no longer be left to fate

Your apathy is there with my regretful sigh
Somehow this problem seems to idle by

So what have you done in your daily play
To help with the plight of your fellow man

Have you lifted a finger or made a sound
Do you think no solution can be found

Your wrong you know without a doubt
All the homeless need is a little clout

A Moment of your Time

Give them your pennies
your nickels and dimes
give them your love
by spending some time

Work for solutions
don’t stand around
unless you start talking
they’ll never be found

I could go on-and-on
with this diatribe
taking you on a trip
and helping you hide

This poem is because
they have one request of you
about your homeless neighbors
and the things that you can do

Full Moon

Having just experienced a lunar eclipse on the longest night, and shortest day of this years trip around the sun, I watched as the full Moon, in all its splendor, reflected its influence on the Earth.

Moon 1

Did not the joy in last nights sky

make you smile and get you high

Did not the glow from Her bright eyes

make you feel your natural ties

Now toward the future you can fly

accepting life’s noises with a sigh

Moon 2

The Goddess shows her reflected sunlight

filling the need to plant at night

She shares Her joy for all to see

like opening the land to plant a tree

Moon 3

Mother Earth accepts without a sound

whatever we choose to place in the ground

and She will give as we set the seed

providing all the new growths need

Moon 4

With the Goddess full and overhead

rest the seeds upon their bed

While counting on Her you bypass rejection

it’s three Moons …… sprout to harvest

now that’s perfection

Moon 5

“Just had to shed a bit of light

about the Moon I saw last night”

Think About It

This day like others bloomed with a sigh

somehow it always brings a tear to my eye

To know that the air is not really clean

if only you could have seen what I’ve seen

The blue skies have all turned a soft shade of gray

but those in control tell us this is the way

For the progress of humanity

   for the population today

      for the future economy

         we’ll all have to pay

Now wealth is the prize of the game I won’t play

still I’m asked to watch while the Planet they slay

Must be mass apathy or mental decay

morality seams to rot not hearing what I say

Where are the green hills in the land of my birth

where are the animals that once covered the Earth

Where are the fresh seas I once enjoyed

before the rape of my home as technology was employed

Have we really progressed with our ill gotten gain

stand in the forest….you can’t miss Her pain

She cries for our health

as we cut down the trees

But we’ve proved it to all

we can bring Her to Her knees

Population Tolerance

Now I suppose this is a rather obvious observation, yet one that I believe needs to be stated.  While some may say the following is a prediction, one cannot dispute the fact that the Homo Sapient population on the planet Earth has more than doubled in my brief lifetime, and apparently (as I see it), as the population increases, our tolerance of one another’s shortcomings decreases directly proportional to the increase in technology, and the decrease of our personal space.

With the decrease of our personal space comes an increase in our apprehension and our own personal desire to preserve what we have.  If we were only trying to preserve what we have that would not be as big a problem as the one we have.  We want more – greed, and it is greed for wealth, or power, or both, that is the underlying force of all the ills on this planet.

Lets start with one, because it deals directly with existence.  One need only view the many homicides in the United States each day, or count the number of homicides during any twenty-four period on the planet to acknowledge a truth:  We kill, and not only do we kill every other thing on this planet, we kill each other.

What to do……..what to do.

Here is a start.  "Thou shall not kill."  Yes I know, this is from the Bible.  It is quoted here only to indicate how long ago we understood this to be a truth.  Therefore, it is the law-of-the-land of most (not all) groups of individuals on Earth.  Yet, one way or another, we justify the killing of another.  This one simple dichotomy is but a microcosm, a sample of how we know something is wrong yet justify the action, and if we cannot establish an honest justification, we succumb to retribution (greed).  The question is:  How can we say to another not to kill – ever, when we justify the killing of another?

I am often told that not all things are black-and-white, yet we all know this is just another justification, thus allowing us, so it is thought, to manipulate the personal (group) desires, irrespective of the truth, which here is:  "….one shall not kill another."

A new question arises:  If we cannot take a life when one kills another, what shall we do as punishment?  To punish, a killing needs to take place.  Yes, I am proposing prevention.  Law enforcement does not prevent crime.  Rather, law enforcement captures, after the killing has occurred.  Some tell us that the punishment is a deterrent – this is just not true (unless you manipulate the facts).
